Introducing Mrs. Marinelli.............

For the first blog this year, I will step away from writing about the classroom and introduce myself.
This is my 11th year teaching at West Hill School. I love teaching third grade children. Be prepared: I first witnessed this tremendous year of growth with my own two daughters, and now I relive this metamorphosis each year through your children. It will be an exciting time of increased independence and maturity! These young ones, barely able to navigate the big school on their own, will emerge in June very confident and self-assured about their abilities. This is why I love the age and grade level so much! It is a pleasure to help children through such a exciting period of growth and maturity. Prior to teaching I worked for 21 years in customer service and sales of a professional color lab.
I grew up in and currently live in South Windsor with my husband, John, and my two daughters, Alison and Jenna. We also have a two year old dog named Buster. John is a self employed commercial photographer. He photographs for local corporations, universities and advertising agencies. He has been self-employed for 35 years. His studio in Glastonbury. Ali, our oldest daughter, is in her 3rd year of a 6 year PHD audiology program at UCONN. She is busy with her studies, teaching as a grad assistant and trying to have some fun in life! Jenna returned for her senior year at Springfield College on Sunday. She is in the Occupational Therapy program. She'll enter her Master Program in June of 2015. Finally, a few words about Buster: comical, spunky, fun-loving, happy-go-lucky!
We were fortunate to have both girls join us for a family vacation this summer. We relaxed and enjoyed the sun and gorgeous scenery of Lake George, New York for 4 days. Then we traveled south to Hyde Park, NY. This city on the Hudson River is naturally beautiful and chocked full of great things to do. We enjoyed a visit to and tour of FDR's home, Eleanor Roosevelt's home and one of the many Vanderbilt Mansions. One night for dinner we had a very nice meal at the Culinary Institute of America. Finally, we traveled south again to Woodbury Common's Outlets for some shopping! It was a great trip!
Students, I hope you and your family have had a wonderful time together and are ready to start the fun, exciting life of a third grader, and parents, the even more fun and exciting life of the parents of a third grader!! haha!
Normally, I post once a week, but this week I will post again to discuss our class' "Ready for Kn 'owl' edge" Classroom Management System. Have a great first week of school!
